Ascension is a Deck Cycling game that follows on the heels of Dominion and Thunderstone. For those not familiar with the concept, Deck Cycling games provide players with a small set of cards in their starting deck and as the game develops the players must acquire new cards that are then added to their discard pile. When a player’s deck is exhausted it must be reshuffled and this then allows those newly acquired cards to be drawn and used. In this way Deck Cycling games offer something new over traditional card games as they allow the players to control the strategic direction they wish to take and themes can be built with each play. In short games like Ascension allow players to personalise their card gaming experience.
